If you are looking to stay in Nafplio, right in the centre of the old city, Althaia Pension Guesthouse is located in one of Nafplio's Venetian style narrow streets just a stone's throw from Syntagma Square.

A historic building of "old Nafplio" dating back to 1865, Althaia has been renovated and redecorated with care and has recently opened its doors to the guests offering double rooms (superior, standard and economical rooms types), triple rooms, quadruple rooms and a family room/apartment with kitchen facilities, all very centrally situated in one of Greece's most popular, magical, romantic towns.

Each of the rooms are extremely spacious, bright and airy they have their own style and all modern amenities to ensure our guests comfort during their stay. We have tried as much as possible to keep the traditional charm of the history of the building whilst updating its amenities and structure and the result is a pleasing, relaxing atmosphere.

The location of Althaia means that our guests have only to venture outside to start exploring the backstreets, harbour and castles of the town along with the narrow sidestreets with the Venetian style overhanging balconies that Nafplio is famous for. Within a few minutes walk from Althaia are Syntagma Square, the Greek Parliament and the church of St. Spyridon where Kapodistria was murdered.

Nafplion was the first capital of Greece after the country was freed from Turkish rule, the architecture reflects the Ottoman, Turkish, Frankish and Venetian rulers making an interesting, historic city. The castles of Palamidi, which towers above the whole town, Acronafplia and the island castle of Bourtzi are visited by thousands of tourists all through the year and is one of the most popular destinations in Greece. The beaches or Karathona and Arvanitia (the town's beach) are well organised and are easily accessible with Arvanitia within walking distance.

There is plenty to do and see in the town itself and in the surrounding areas and a huge variety of activities covering the whole of the Peloponnese with something for everyone.

The name Althaia means "healing herb" and we chose it for its relevance to healing the psyche during your stay and each room at Althaia has its own name dedicated to a healing herb, mostly grown in Greece, which are used in cooking and for medicinal purposes - each name has been chosen specifically to represent the look, feel and decor of the rooms.
