Frangokastello lies on the south coast of Crete in the municipility of Sfakia. The village is named after the Venetian castle built in 1371.

Frangokastello is famous of its beautiful sandy beaches, which have been saved from the mass tourism. The secluded location of the village has played a key role to the preservation of the area's original beauty. It lies at a distance of 140 km from Heraklion and 75 km from Chania.
